If you are like most parents (myself included) you want the best for your child.
You want them to have the chance to try everything they seem interested in. (usually this starts around
the time they are three years old)...
Many (if not all) Karate schools are well aware of this fact, and they use it to their advantage. Offering
Karate "Day care", or pee-wee or little dragon, or everything except actual Karate...
We won't do that to you.
Here is the long and short of why...
We don't take any child under the age of five.
The reason is; children are in the most important developmental time of their life. We don't think
any child is ready for a martial art at that age. (Physically or emotionally).
We won't take a child if they aren't ready, five or not.
Let's face it, not all kids are ready. My son wasn't ready at five. There is no harm in waiting until they
are really ready to commit to a solid three months of training. Don't spend your money on a huge commitment just to say they
"tried karate" but lost interest.
We won't sign anyone under the age of 8 to a commitment.
Three months is the maximum; not because we don't believe in your child, but because should their interest
change we feel it is wrong to continue to bill you for it.
We don't hand out stickers or stripes or candy bars everytime your child does something
right.
We offer words of encouragement for a job well done. We will also let them know if they are not doing their
best.
We make it clear to your child that they need to honor YOU their parents by doing a good job everytime they
come to class, just like in school.
By doing so, we have found that the children in our classes learn the true meaning of respect for themselves
and you.
Sparring
So many Karate schools today use "point fighting" as the test of whether or not your child is a
skilled martial artist/fighter...
The same schools will charge you an arm and a leg for sparring gear and additional money for going
to tournaments...
Here is where we are a left turn from the "McDojo's" out there.
First we don't expect your child to fight before they are actually ready (usually a year or so of training
(Orange belt level)). Second, (but just as important) point fighting is the furthest thing from reality. On the street
or the playground, there is no judge to stop the fight and award a "point"...
Point fighting never addresses the fact that fighting should be the LAST resort.
So, you won't be getting trophies for "fighting" here.
We believe this prevents a false sense of security and does not inflate the ego.
We want all of our students to grow and become good people. The untimate aim of a martial arts instructor
is to help the community by creating safer more physically fit kids .
Signing up is easy, just come in.
Why would you go anywhere else?
Seriously?
